By its very nature, an endangered language cannot be revitalized alone — it takes a village. It's only by building community and working together that we can provide the necessary resources, guidance, and care to breathe new life into Michif-French.
The BCMF Michif-French Language team is a dedicated group of Métis individuals, language experts, native speakers and Elders who are committed to nurturing a connection to Michif-French for generations to come.
Jeanie is the Director of Michif Language at the BC Métis Federation.
Born in Manitoba, Rene is proudly Métis. He plays the fiddle and proudly promotes Métis culture wherever he goes.
Earl is a fluent Michif-French speaker.
Betty is Métis and was raised in the small Saskatchewan community of Young. Before joining BCMF, she worked for the Regina Friendship Centre and the Saskatchewan Association of Friendship Centres, and served as board member for Regina Native Women, the Saskatoon Friendship Inn, and the Saskatchewan Council for Aboriginal Women’s Economic Development.
